Strictly Comply with Bombay High Court’s Air Pollution Control Guidelines, Warns Municipal Commissioner Anmol Sagar

Bhiwandi: Amid rising air pollution concerns in urban areas of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Municipal Commissioner Anmol Sagar (IAS) has issued strict directives to senior officials of the Bhiwandi Nizampur City Municipal Corporation (BNCMC) to ensure rigorous compliance with the comprehensive air pollution control guidelines issued by the State Environment Department, pursuant to directions in a suo motu Public Interest Litigation before the Bombay High Court.

The Hon’ble High Court has constituted a two-member judicial high-powered committee to oversee the implementation of these guidelines. In this context, a review meeting of senior officials was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Sagar.

Officials Warned of Personal Accountability for Non-Compliance

At the meeting, the Commissioner directed all concerned department heads to implement the High Court’s directions with strict precision. He issued a clear warning that any officer found lacking in compliance with these guidelines would be held personally accountable and would face disciplinary action.

Key Areas Discussed at the Meeting

The review meeting covered detailed directives on the following fronts:

  • Measures to curb pollution from under-construction sites and demolition sites across the city
  • Management of construction debris
  • Control of air pollution caused by industrial establishments
  • Road-cleaning action plan
  • Solid waste management plan
  • Public awareness campaign plan
  • Promotion of eco-friendly fuel usage
  • Tree plantation and green belt development plan

The meeting was attended by the Additional Commissioner, Assistant Director (Town Planning), City Engineer, Deputy Commissioner (Environment), Deputy Commissioner (Health), Deputy Engineers, Assistant Commissioners, and Ward Officers, among other officials.
